Klobuchar a Hot Dish Neo-Liberal

Sunday's Amy Klobuchar rally at St. Louis Park High school in Minnesota was disrupted mostly by activists from Black Lives Matter over her railroad sentencing of 16-year old Myon Burrell in 2002, who is still serving time in Stillwater prison for murder.  Burrell is now 33 years old.  He never accepted the standard ‘plea deal’ of guility that prosecutors use to jail people easily.  The ‘facts’ in his sentencing are so weak that even the Associated Press is having doubts.

Klobuchar, acting as ‘presidential’ as possible, avoided making a deal with the protesters on speaking issues or announcing that she wanted the conviction to be overturned or reexamined by the Republican Hennepin County Attorney.  Instead after an hour and a half-hour of chanting by BLM activists who had occupied the stage, she cancelled the event from behind the scenes.  Chants included ‘Free Myon,’ ‘Black Lives Matter,’ ‘Drop Out’ and ‘Hey, hey, ho, ho, Klobuchar Has Got to Go!’ 

The smallish crowd of befuddled, mostly European-American suburbanites, managed to get up one loud chant for their candidate, but couldn’t compete with the protesters, even with Klobuchar’s sound-system blasting songs, among them Dylan’s “The Times They Are a Changin’”  Irony is not her strong suit.  Security was non-existent and the event seemed poorly organized, staged in a half-gymnasium.  Supporters trailed out at the end disappointed. 

Klobuchar has other blood on her hands besides Burrell.  As a prosecutor she unnecessarily went after Somalis in Minneapolis who smoked khat, a mild African stimulant.  Which should give you an idea on her attitude towards legal marijuana.  Her environmental record is atrocious – supporting a national lifting of endangered species designation for wolves.  She’s a wolf killer, not just a jailer.  She openly supports the toxic Polymet copper sulfide mine in northern Minnesota that will drain through native reservations and into Lake Superior, and quietly supports the toxic Twin Metals copper sulfide mine run by Trump-connected Chilean firm Antofagasta that will drain north into the Boundary Waters National Park and Canada.  She’s a proponent of Enbridge’s Line 3 piping the global-warming Canadian tar sands through northern Minnesota near several indigenous reservations.

Klobuchar’s a happy supporter, along with Trump, of the US/Mexico/Canada trade agreement, NAFTA 2/USMCA, which will further decimate the Mexican economy and agriculture for the profit of U.S. imperial business interests, transferring more work south.  She acts as a ‘rainmaker’ for local corporations in the Ag sector like Cargill, ADM and General Mills; the health sector like United HealthGroup and Health Partners; the banking sector like Ameriprise and U.S. Bancorp; the retail sector like Target and Best Buy and the production sector like Ecolab and 3M (and their Post-Its.)  Elizabeth Warren pointed out one of those could handle Klobuchar's ‘health plan’ easily.  Klobuchar also gets donations from these corporations. She’s never met a war or coup or regime change plan or sanction she didn’t like and just voted for a massive bi-partisan increase in the U.S. arms budget – along with Trumper Republicans.  

Klobuchar got elected partly on the name recognition provided by her father, Jim Klobuchar, who was the most well-known columnist in Minnesota, writing for the Star Tribune.  The localist Star Tribune and the clueless New York Times endorsed her for president, which also tells you something.  Her New Hampshire shtick as a ‘feel your pain Mid-Westerner’ from 'the Heartland' crying crocodile tears is about as threadbare a political tactic as buying votes.  Klobuchar does not use Turbotax as she hinted at one debate – she’s too wealthy for that.

Klobuchar is running for an administrative post in the Biden administration – perhaps the Justice Department or the Department of Agriculture.  She is not running for president.  As one person who had no knowledge of her politics but saw her on TV, she came across as ‘smug.’  Well, when you get about 5 minutes of national fame at a hearing on Brett Kavanaugh and think that, plus your JD, qualifies you to run the country, you have the definition of ‘smug’ – the entitled wisdom of the professional strata in the U.S.

P.S. - In a coordinated move right before "Super Tuesday" Amy Klobuchar dropped out and is endorsing Biden, as did security-state asset Pete Buttigieg. Later multi-billionaire Bloomberg also dropped out and gave his offices to Biden, working as a king-maker.  So the corporate Democrats have coalesced.  Pete is hoping he can leave the misery of South Bend, Indiana behind and get a cabinet post in "The Department of Platitudes" in a Biden administration. I'm sure Klobuchar is gunning for the Department of Injustice or the VP spot.

P.P.S. - Mel Reeves on MPR on 3/3 pointed out that Klobuchar was part of a 'tough on crime' attack on 'super-predators' in the late 1980s and 1990s.
